Street Workout: questioning laws of gravity with elegance

If you have ever seen adults running around children’s playground swinging on climbing frames, you probably caught them in the middle of their Street Workout routine. But do not get confused! This sport is much more sophisticated and difficult to perform than it may seem in the eye of passerby.

Felinotherapy - when a cat helps to heal

Felinotherapy - when a cat helps to heal

Bam. Squab. Bam. It's four o'clock in the morning. Thief? Aliens? As I said, it's four in the morning so I do not really care. Something heavy lands next to me. Aaa, a cat. Six and a half pounds of hair on four legs with tail. It moves to my head and begins to purr. For those, who do not own or never have encountered a cat; purring, in this unholy hour, sounds like a group of mowers trying to play Beethoven’s sonata. One needs to be awake to really appreciate it. The thing I cannot seem to appreciate at four in the morning is highly sought  as a treatment. Cat is the cornerstone of felinotherapy.

Wine, singing, and dancing – that’s what you can enjoy in South Moravia

Wine, singing, and dancing – that’s what you can enjoy in South Moravia

Every Erasmus student should explore the country he visits. And that means, that he should discover some of the traditions this country has. In this country, there are lots of traditional occasions in every corner of the land, but mostly you can find it in South Moravia. Brno is a part of South Moravia, but it’s a city and in the city, the traditions are held little differently than in villages. But that’s not a problem, you can use bus or train to get to any village in South Moravia and enjoy our unique customs. Moreover, when you take a bus, there’s chance that you meet someone wearing a folk costume. “Sometimes when I take a bus wearing my folk costume, people stare at me because they are surprised. They may think ‘What’s up tonight?’ because no one is wearing this costume without a reason,” Pavlína Bayerová says. So take the bus and you may be surprised too.

Fast fashion - problem that many people support yet not know about

Fast fashion - problem that many people support yet not know about

While passing a shopping centre, you may consider just a quick look around what is new in stores. Surrounded by all these shiny glass shop windows, behind which stand many mannequins, you wonder whether to enter or not. Just a brief look inside to find out what is now on trend. Don’t you need this simple T-shirt with some cute quote on it, even though you have many in your wardrobe at home? Oh, and what about these jeans, which are in sale now. It seems right to please yourself after very tough week with another piece of fabric that will wear off after few washes. It’s not a big deal, many clothes are like that nowadays, right? The variety of different styles, colours and designs is incredible, isn’t it. So much that is even overwhelming sometimes.

Wasteland is my home, Junktown is my city

All people, living and walking on the surface of the planet Earth, are part of the species of living organisms called humans. And we all are different in many ways. We are unique in our appearance, our characters are heterogeneous and every single man, woman (or anybody who identify themselves as an individual with one of the uncountable amount of other genders) is incomparable and irreplaceable.

Blindness to the needs of others kills

Blindness to the needs of others kills

You can see them all around. Dirty and stinky. And we do not notice them. We are living our own world in our own small closed bubble. If they sometimes disturb it with the question: “Will you give me a twenty?” we refuse in disgust. People without home...

Students in the National Theatre? Not only as audience

Students in the National Theatre? Not only as audience

It is Wednesday night, time of the last performance of the opera Love from Afar (Láska na dálku) in this season. Sitting in a pub, trying to identify the noise coming from the place around the corner. “Would you mind if I turned the radio off? They are really incredible,“ a waiter asks. Most of the customers rest in silence, drinking their beers, just a few of them nod undisturbedly, so she knows she can press the button and we are suddenly surrounded by the strong, fulsome voices.

Drugs in sports can destroy careers, lives and bring a lot of problems

An ancient quote says that a man cannot fool only two things – himself and his past. Slovak hockey player Martin can confirm these words. His life is full of ups and downs and his story is really interesting. His story is also quite frustrating in some parts and sometimes even unbelievable. After a tough life period he became one of the most prospective hockey players in Slovakia and he also was on the right path into popular league NHL. However, his life has made another twist recently and his whole future career is in doubt.

It is not allowed to smoke in here!

The 30th of May will be the last day when people can smoke in a restaurants or bars. No more cigarette smoke when you are watching football on TV, no more cigar and whiskey pairings, no more ignition of lighters and its familiar sound. This is because of anti-smoking law. It will be unpleasant novelty for people who are addicted to smoking and for smoking pubs owners. One of them is Jiří Meluzín, a manager of Beers Monkey restaurant in Brno. “Our restaurant is for smokers for years and this law is against owners free will. We were doing the best for our visitors and we have no choice now,” says Jiří with resigned shrug of the shoulders. And this is problem of many restaurants, bars and pubs in Czech Republic.

Alana, a young student who comes from eastern part of Slovakia, is trying to solve her living and social problems in her own way. As many other voters, she gave her support to Kotleba´s party in the last parliamentary election in Slovakia. There´s definitely something weird in Slovakia. Maybe you have noticed, maybe not. And maybe you´re one of them.
